About time for a change
Make a tough decision
My trusty EOS 1Dx and EOS 6D have been with me for many years and have certainly done the job. There's always been something reassuring about raising the 1Dx to my eye, just knowing I'd get sharp images when I hit the shutter. Both cameras are showing their age and are due for replacement. Their age also means that no matter what I decide, it's essentially going to be a system change.
So, what I need is a camera for action photography and its corresponding native lenses.
I'm not a fan of adapters, so using my EF lenses on the Canon R series with an adapter is out of the question. This leaves my options wide open: Should I invest in the Canon R series, or switch to a different system entirely?
The big leap
My requirements for a new system were clear: continuous shooting and autofocus needed to be at least as good as the 1Dx, the total weight had to be lighter than the 6D with a 70-200mm lens, and the price needed to stay under 4000 euros.
After countless hours of research, I decided to head to a dealer and try out the OM-1 Mark II (OM SYSTEM is the company that acquired Olympus's camera division).
The moment I held the camera for the first time, my decision was made. Ergonomically, it was an even better match for my hands than the 1Dx!
